Q: Christmas in July! Someone gives you a gift card for two books (whatever that costs). What two books will you buy?
I'm kind of a freak of blogger nature, but I never buy books.Seriously.
Never.
The last book I bought was Mockingjay, on the day it was released.
If I were going to pick up a couple books, I'd have to go with ones I already love and want to lend out to everyone I know. So, I'd pick:
Sweethearts by Sara Zarr, because it's the best book you've never heard of. (unless you read my blog regularly & know that I talk about it all. the. time.) Her most recent book, How to Save a Life, is better written, but Sweethearts is my favorite.
Jellicoe Road by Melina Marchetta, because that's just a great book to own. I don't know of many people who have finished the book and didn't like it.
How about you? Do you like to buy books you haven't read, or stick to things you know you already like?

Great picks!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for stopping by - new follower! :D
Thanks!
DeleteEeesh, I could NOT get into Jellicoe Road, but everyone I know loves it! Nice to meed you from FF!
ReplyDeleteYou too! Ok, I confess I know a few people who couldn't get into it, either. The beginning is kind of tough, because it's really hard to tell what's going on.
DeleteI just added Sweethearts to my to-read list! Can't wait to start it!

It really is a great book, as long as you can make it past the somewhat confusing parts in the beginning. :)
DeleteHave a great weekend! New GFC Follower!
ReplyDeleteHere's my FF
Thanks, you too!

Woohoo! Someone else who's read Sweethearts. If you liked that one I'd bet you'd like Jellicoe Road, too.
DeleteJellicoe Road was amazing! I borrowed it from the library first but loved it so much that I bought my own copy. Great pick!
ReplyDeleteNew follower. Our FF
I think I may end up doing that, too! :)
DeleteI don't usually buy in hard copy unless I REALLY LOVE THEM. Now that I have a kindle, I have to like it electronically first.

I love it! :) I think if I had an e-reader I'd probably buy more books than I do now, but still only ones I liked.
DeleteI have Jellicoe Road but have not read it yet >_< But I haven't heard of the other - Sweethearts. I will check that out. Great picks :0)
ReplyDeleteNew follower! My FF.
I know, not many people have heard of it. It's one of those books I try to convert everyone to! :)
DeleteHopping through. Totally agree that Jellicoe Road is a must to read. Such a good book.
ReplyDeleteMy Hop
Yay! I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels that way. :)

I almost didn't read it because of the cover. (which is dumb, I know. But still true) I hope you get a chance to get to it. :)
DeleteKathy, you literally just read my mind. That's exactly how I feel about books! I haven't read either of the books you've mentioned though: I love Melina Marchetta's "Saving Francesca" Amazing! I'm a new follower!

(PS I said the exact same thing about books that you did! Ahhh)
I need to read Saving Francesca! I know a few people who like that one best of all her books.
DeleteSweethearts really was good but I can't think about that book without wanting a sugar cookie! Reading it was torture! ;)
